The Origin

Between 2008 and 2009, Phil T — manager of Ireland's one and only dedicated metal and rock radio station, Metal Hertz FM — offered a new platform to the International Metalheads Club to promote the club and the new bands rising up from the underground.

From 8 to 10 PM every Sunday night, streamed across the globe and broadcast on 99.9 FM in Ireland, Eddie D's Mental Metal Madness tore through the airwaves.

The station is no longer live, but for two unforgettable years it carved out a home for metal in Ireland when nowhere else would.

Sunday Night Mayhem

The Weekly Ritual

Sunday nights turned into true metal mayhem. The evening opened with Sweet Lou's eclectic mix, closed with the thunderous sounds of Al B, and the IMHC carved out its prime spot right in the middle.

Metal Hertz FM was the go-to station — in Ireland and for listeners around the world — for discovering new bands while championing the original flag bearers of metal. This was a time before Spotify existed, when airplay on commercial radio was simply not an option for heavy music.

Carrying The Torch

In memory of the station, and in thanks to manager Phil T along with all of Eddie D's comrades who worked their asses off in that radio booth — the IMHC is carrying the torch.

Metal Hertz FM may no longer be on air, but its spirit lives on. We're continuing what the station started with the official IMHC Spotify playlist — a home for new metal bands launching their music into the world.

If you're a new band starting out, or you've stumbled across a band the world needs to hear, hit the button below to send us the Spotify link. And since not every band is on Spotify, you're welcome to submit any other links — Bandcamp, YouTube, SoundCloud, official sites — as we look to promote metal through every avenue we can.

Know a band tearing it up? Maybe it's you. Maybe it's a mate. Maybe it's some unsigned crew with two demos and zero ego. Send them our way and help us keep the Metal Hertz FM spirit alive.
